Well, a lot has happened since I started my world tour. I'm three months into traveling and I feel like I've just started. Not everything has gone as planned, but of course that's part of the fun.
I originally planned on taking the Trans Siberian Railroad across Russian then drop down through Mongolia, China, and South East Asia. That didn't happen due to visa issues with Russia. I would go into details but its just boring bureaucratic cacca. Either way, I had to find an alternative round and headed south through Eastern Europe.
So far I've been to, in this order, Germany, Czech, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, a very brief layover in Bahrain (so I won't officially count that country), and currently Thailand.
Some highlights:
- Krakow, Poland, beautiful city and beautiful people. Its kind of like Prague, but less tourists.
- Belgrade, Serbia - I have a soft spot for Serbian women. They are super nice and gorgeous. Plus the nightlife was sweet.
- Turkey - There is so much to see. I met some cool people there and traveled with two awesome Canadian girls. At one point I was offered camels for the Canadians...I declined. I'm still pondering my decision.
- Thailand - The street food. I can get enough. Plus I had my first experience of waking up to explosions and gun fire near my guesthouse in Bangkok. This was during all of the government protest and airport takeovers. Good times.
I'm currently in Chiang Mai (northern Thailand), staying in a sweet little guesthouse called "Julie's Guesthouse". They have warm showers (I had my first warm shower in almost a month yesterday), the rooms/beers are cheap and the people are nice. All drinks are on an honor system. They have an open fridge and you keep a tally in a little book on what you've had and pay on departure. This afternoon I'm taking a Muay Thai class at on of the local gyms...should be interesting.
I'm getting ready to head in to Laos because my 30 day Thai visa runs out Dec. 23. The time flew by. Really looking forward to Laos.
That's it for my first blog entry ever!
